Parental Preparation for Infant Baptism
Baptism Registration
St. John Vianney Parish warmly welcomes and joyfully celebrates baptisms within the community. We recognize a child's baptism is an exciting time for parents, godparents and families. In preparation for this special Sacrament of Initiation, parents are invited to learn about the Rite of Baptism.
Parish members of St. John Vianney wishing to have their child baptized are required to attend a Baptism Conference preparation session.* Parents are encouraged to attend Baptism Conference prior to the child’s birth.
To register for the Baptism Conference, parents are invited to visit the parish office during normal business hours to complete the Baptism Registration Form and select conference dates and times convenient for both parents. A $10 fee is collected for conference materials.
The four hour Baptism Conferences are held monthly on the same night of successive weeks for two hours. The conference covers the theology of Baptism, role of godparents/sponsors, as well as the explanation of the Rite itself. The conference includes group sharing as well as catechesis. Both parents are expected to attend unless an exemption is requested and approved.
* Parents who have attended Baptism Conference within the past two years may receive an exception from this requirement.
Baptism Opportunities St. John Vianney welcomes and receives infants into the Catholic faith through community celebrations. Baptisms are held the first weekend of the month during the Saturday Liturgy at 4:30 p.m. and Sunday Liturgy at 11 a.m. Baptisms are held after the 11 a.m. liturgy on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month. A reference calendar for upcoming Baptism dates is available. As you plan for the celebration of this Sacrament, these helpful tips may answer some questions.
There are no baptisms scheduled during Lent.
Parents are encouraged to pre-register for Baptism prior to the birth of the child. St. John Vianney Parish provides the opportunity for up to four families to celebrate Baptisms during the Liturgy and up to eight family Baptisms after the Liturgy. Parents register for Baptism at the Parish Office.
