What's New at SJV...

Welcome Fr. Phil!
Thank you for welcoming me to St. John Vianney Parish. I was ordained a priest recently on August 1, 2008 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist. I am thankful for the many people from this parish whom I saw there or talked to me. Last weekend was a truly wonderful and joyful moment for me, and I hope to serve faithfully for many years ahead in gratitude.
I am native of Milwaukee, went to Pius XI High School and Marquette University, earning an accounting degree. After Marquette, when I decided to enter the seminary, I was asked by Archbishop Dolan if I would be willing to complete my theology studies at the American College of the Immaculate Conception in Louvain, Belgium (near Brussels). I spent the last four years of my seminary training there.
Archbishop Dolan assigned me to return to Belgium on September 1, 2008 to complete my sacred license in theology (STL) degree in systematic theology. Louvain is one of the few places in the world where this ecclesiastical degree is granted and is a big reason why the U.S. Bishops locate the American College seminary there. Thus, I will only be here at the parish for one month.
When I return on July 1, 2009, I will be assigned to a parish in the Archdiocese. While I am excited to return to Louvain, I must be honest that I cannot wait to be in a parish full time. I will be counting the days until my return next summer, and I am honored to be here at St. John Vianney for the summer. I hope to make the most of this time.
St. John Vianney Parish will always be a special place to me because it is where I first took on priestly ministry. I am intimidated as this is a major transition in my life, and I am using all my training in reality with your parish for the first time.
Thank you for allowing me to be here and being patient with a new priest. Please feel free to be in touch with me. I would love to get to meet you at Mass and any other opportunity that comes up. I am living at the parish rectory during August and my contact information is on the bulletin cover.
Grace & Peace,
Fr. Phil
