Faith-A-Thon

St. John Vianney
 "Mighty Doves"

Faith-a-Thon is a faith facts contest for students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade who compete against other Faith-A-Thon parish teams in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

Each parish team is made up of six to eight players who compete in a day long series of games based on faith facts.  The winning team earns prizes.

The purpose of Faith-A-Thon is to motivate middle-school students to learn the factual data of their faith.

St. John Vianney usually has three teams (one for 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade) of eight players.  Our team name is the "Mighty Doves."

The archdiocesan competition takes place each May, usually around the 2nd weekend, at the Tyme Out Center in Nashotah, WI.

Students on the team train for several hours each week during the months of March, April and May, usually on Saturday morning.  High school students serve as team and parish coaches.  Parents are invited to supervise and assist one or two trainings.

The Faith-A-Thon competition runs from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on the 2nd Saturday in May (usually). Parents and guests are invited to the awards ceremony at 1 p.m.

How can I be a Faith-A-Thon Team Member?

Every student in 6th, 7th and 8th grade has an opportunity to apply to be on the team. In 2009, 206 applicants applied for just 24 positions on three teams! The average score for those 206 applicants was 53.4% correct.

2011 Team Results

Congratulations to the twenty-four 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who represented our parish in the Archdiocesan Faith-a-thon as the St.
John Vianney Mighty Doves on Saturday, May 14.

With 33 teams competing over two days, the St. John Vianney 8th grade Mighty Doves team came in with the highest total score

St. John Vianney's 7th grade Mighty Doves team had the second highest total score.

St. John Vianney's 6th grader Mighty Doves team did a great job at their first showing and just missed the third place overall team score (and actually came in third on the day of their competition).

The Red (8th grade) team was comprised of members Maria Casey, Nolan Cunniff, Michael Dobrzynski, Aaron Hovind, Nick Rizzo, Brevet Captain Grace Tallmadge
, Olivia Volkert and Captain Sam Windsor. Coaches Clare Casey and Mark Conti led the team in practices.

The White (7th grade) team included Alex Byrne, Dane Cunniff, Maya Guadagni, Rachel Illgen, Marcus Oleson, Nolan Tegge, Captain Anthony Uy, and Brevet Captain Sam Wallace. Simone Hussussian and Tom Farrell served as the team coaches.

The Gold (6th grade) team included Mike Beffel, Ryan Bohr, Captain Max Casey, Emma Coursin, Brevet Captain Rae Davel, Jane Gehringer, Olivia Rudek, and Carolyn Tallmadge. Maddie Keyes and Simone Tegge coached the Gold Team.

Additional alumni coaches included Collin Hubler, Kelsey Klimara, Aly Fenlon, Savannah Sippy, Allison Uy, and Matthew Cekanor.

A number of Mighty Dove parents assisted throughout the preparation process and on the day of the event. Thanks to Christine Keyes, Margie Casey, Suzy Windsor, Mary Cunniff, Mike Uy, Ann Rizzo, Lisa Volkert, and John Casey.

Fathers Phillip Bogacki and George Rebatzki were kind enough to accommodate the team reconciliation held on Saturday, May 7.

Great job, team!
