Medical Dental Mission to Guatemala

        2012 Mission Dates
                   March 10 - 18

Our mission to Guatemala this year
is March 10-18. During the weekends of February 11- 12 and February 18-19, the 14 volunteers are holding the annual Buck and Bottle Fundraiser.

We know we would not be able to do this without your support and truly appreciate your donations.

2012 Guatemala Medical /
Dental Mission Followup

The 2012 mission was another successful endeavor. With 14
members we were able to treat 542 medical patients and 255
dental patients this year.

Our group consisted of 2 physicians, 1 nurse practitioner, 3 nurses, 3 dentists, 2 dental hygienists, 1 dental assistant, 1 interpreter, and 1 lay person.

Our hosts, Jim and Diane Thompson of the Boca Costa Medical Mission in Guatemala, were very gracious and were a huge help to the success of this mission. They have been in Guatemala for the last
10 years and have developed 2 clinics that we served.

See their website at: www.bocacostamm.org  for more information.

A big thank you to parishioners that have supported us these past 11 years. We truly would not have been able to do this mission without your support.

On a sad note, this mission group will be disbanding. The balance of this mission will be given to Jim and
Diane to continue their most noble cause with purchasing of medi-cations, providing nursing education, and supporting
villagers with surgical needs.

Since our departure will put a strain
on them, I suggest for anyone who wishes to support them, to
check their website for donation information or mail donation to:

How You Can Help

Buck & Bottle Collection

During the weekends of February 11-12 and February 18-19, 2012, the mission volunteers are holding the Buck & Bottle Fundraiser.

We need adult and children's vitamins (NO gummy-type children's vitamins, please), as well as "bucks" ($$) that can be attached by a rubber band to the item donated.

Because the volunteers carry all of the medical supplies, we would prefer smaller bottles of vitamins as they have much less wasted space in the bottle than do large bottles.

The monetary donations fund the purchase of various medical and dental supplies and medications which are split up and carried in a suitcase by each volunteer. If we are able to raise enough funds, we may be able to provide a scholarship to a deserving child in Guatemala, giving them the opportunity to complete their education and learn how to help their people. Also, a portion of your donation is used to help defray the cost of the mission trip.

If you would like, you may drop your donation at the parish office. We will also have available pre-addressed, stamped envelopes for your convenience.

Checks should be made payable to:
SJV Medical Mission.
