Parishioner Call to Action - Health and Human Services Mandate

Together with the bishops of the United States, Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki is communicating the seriousness of the Health and Human Services mandate that all private health care plans must cover sterilization, abortifacients, and contraception. The rule is set to take effect August 1, 2012. Please review his letter to increase awareness of the HHS decision and the reasons for the Church’s opposition to the mandate.  Learn more about the Catholic church's response on the United States Council of Catholic Bishop's webpage.

Responding to the announcement, Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, stated: “In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences.” Cardinal-designate Dolan continued: “To force Americans to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable. . . It is as much an attack on access to health care as on religious freedom.”  Read more...

Scout Sunday Celebrated This Weekend

This weekend we commemorate the anniversary of Scouting in America.

Saint John Vianney Parish has a rich history in the Scouting tradition. For over 50 years, the families of SJV have supported Cub Scout Pack 71 (for boys in 1st to 5th grade), Boy Scout Troop 71 (for boys in 5th – 12th grade) and Girl Scout Troops (for girls in K-12th grade). SJV also sponsors a Venturing Crew 71 for young men and women ages 14 to 21.

Scouts of all ages are invited to wear their uniform to Mass this weekend.
Scout Law states that “A Scout is Reverent” and Scouts promise to do their “Duty to God”. These values strengthen youth character in their family, community and faith. Several optional religious emblems are available to Scouts to earn if they so choose. The following religious emblems will be presented on Sunday at the 11am Mass to Scouts to have completed the requirements:

Light of Christ: Cub Scouts at the Tiger and Wolf level develop a personal relationship with Jesus. With the active assistance and participation of parents in the program, Catholic Cub Scouts come to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.
Pack 23 recipient:  Matthew Wimmer.
Pack 71 recipients: Jonny Adel, Ben DeGuire, Luc Demmon, Keegan Doyle, Daniel Gibson, Connor Lange, Adam Miller, Andrew Prudlow, Andrew Rossi, Michael Rueth, Joe Schramm, Peter Stockhausen, Brian Walsh and Gabe Wollersheim.

Parvuli Dei: To earn Parvuli Dei, Catholic Cub Scouts explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish. They also develop a positive self-image through the contributions they can make to the group or community.
Pack 55 recipient: Mark Czechowski
Pack 71 recipients: Jack Durst, Connor Fischer, David Kost, Michael Lange, Jacob Stockhausen, Adam Uy, Joshua Werra.

Ad Altare Dei: Ad Altare Dei (To the Altar of God) helps Catholic Boy Scouts develop a full Christian way of life in the faith community. The most important aspect of the program is the spiritual growth experienced by the Scout in his relationship to God and the Church.
Troop 71 recipients: John Lilek, Alexander Uy, Anthony Uy.

Reception After 11am Mass
Parishioners and guests are invited to attend a reception following the 11 am Mass in the Church Hall, sponsored by SJV’s Boy and Cub Scout Troop 71. Donuts and refreshments will be served.

If you are interested in learning more about Scouts, please contact Mike Lilek, 262-784-0222 or mike@lilek.org  for Boy Scouts and Venturing, Jim Swiderski, 262-785-1620 or cubmaster@stjohnv.org  for Cub Scouts, and Alaina Scopp, 262-782-4356 or ascopp@wi.rr.com  for Girl Scouts.
