Saint John Vianney Catholic Church

Hospitality Minister

One of the main reasons Catholics attend a particular parish is that they like the music, the preaching, and feel welcomed there.

Feel welcomed? Feeling welcomed begins at the door when someone greets you as you enter the church and hands you a bulletin and an order of worship with a smile and a willingness to answer any questions you may have.

St. John Vianney Parish has a long-standing history of hospitality ministry. Some of our ministers have been serving since Mass was in our current cafeteria! They have learned to change stripes as the liturgy and the Church has changed.  Other ministers, being warmly welcomed when they first attended, are new parishioners who are interested in meeting fellow members!

Hospitality Ministry is the welcome, familiar smiling face as you enter church.

The Hospitality Ministry mission is to greet, seat, collect, and guide the assembly to ensure prayerful participation in the liturgical celebrations.

What does a Hospitality Minister do?

Hospitality Ministry is easy to do. There are nine ministers at each Mass. That means we need 45 ministers each weekend just for this ministry! We do have over 8,000 souls in our parish -- and adults and school-age children are invited to serve.  Families are especially welcome to serve together!

Hospitality Ministers arrive at least 15 minutes before Mass, dressed in Sunday-best, and ready to
greet people as they arrive. Five of the nine are greeters until just after Mass begins and four are in church preparing for the liturgy.

During the liturgy, Hospitality Ministers assist with the offertory collection, direct the communion procession and assist parishioners/guests.

That's it!

Would you consider volunteering for this ministry?

Since you come to church for Mass anyway, will you help? Your service would be deeply appreciated.  This ministry is always welcoming new members...of course!
