Playground Equipment and Rules
The playground is supervised by parent volunteers and teachers. The Parent Supervision Schedule is organized on Orientation Day and communicated each week in the Shamrock Weekly.
For the safety of all students, the following rules apply:
1. Respect of teachers and playground supervisors is mandatory.
2. Students must be dressed appropriately for the weather (teacher/supervisor discretion).
3. Garbage from healthy snacks eaten during recess must be properly disposed in trash receptacles provided.
4. Kicking, tripping, pushing, or disrespectful behavior toward other students is not allowed.
5. Swearing or bad language is not allowed.
6. Hand holding or touching is not allowed.
7. Tackle games, keep away or inappropriate roughness and exclusion of students is not allowed.
8. Throwing snowballs or ice is not permitted.
9. Students must not leave the playground for any reason without the permission of a supervisor.
10. If a student is ill or injured, contact the superviser who will immediately notify the school office. The child should be escorted to the health room by another student or an adult.
11. Inappropriate behavior will be addressed through discipline referrals (teacher/administration discretion).
12. In the event of rain or temperatures falling below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, students will remain inside.
Playground Supplies
Each classroom is provided with playground gear, such as basketballs, footballs, jump ropes, etc. Students are asked to pick up gear as they line up after recess. Children are permitted to bring items from home if they are well-identified. Proper care of playground gear is expected.
SJV provides playground equipment for all school students to use.
The following rules apply to the playround equipment:
1. Any behavior determined unsafe or potentially detrimental to oneself or the equipment is unacceptable and will be appropriately addressed by the teacher, playground supervisor or school administration.
2. No loose scarves or drawstrings on clothing.
3. Throwing the shredded cushioning material (loose fill/bark) is not permitted.
4. Use slides appropriately, i.e. slide down the slide feet first, no running down the slide and no climbing up the slide.
5. No jumping off the equipment.
6. No standing or sitting on top of equipment.
7. Rules are subject to change as determined necessary.
Playground guidelines are established to provide a safe environment for students. Please share questions, concerns and suggestions with the principal.
