Saint John Vianney Catholic Church

Scout Sunday

The first Sunday of February commemorates the anniversary of Scouting in America.

St. John Vianney has a rich history in the Scouting tradition. For over 50 years the families of SJV have supported Cub Scout Pack 71 (for boys in 1st through 5th grade) and Boy Scout Troop 71 (for boys 11 to 17). Girl Scout troops have been supported at SJV for many decades. SJV also sponsors the Venturing Crew 71 for young men and women ages 14 to 21.

Scout members of the parish also belong to other Scout Troops chartered by their school. As a parish, we recognize the efforts of every Scout especially when they earn Catholic religious awards.

The Scout Law states that a “Scout is Reverent” and scouts of all ages promise to do their “Duty to God.” These values strengthen youth character in their family, community, and faith.

During Scout Sunday, St. John Vianney recognizes parish member Scouts who have completed Catholic religious awards or medals.

Parishioners and guests are invited to attend a reception following the Mass in the Church Hall, sponsored by SJV Boy Scout Troop 71. Donuts and refreshments served.

Girl Scouting

Family of God

Family of God is the official religious recognition program of the Roman Catholic Church for children grades 2-3 who are enrolled in Girl Scouts. The program helps children discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish.

I Live My Faith

The I Live My Faith program is designed to help Girl Scouts in grades 4-6, appreciate more deeply the place that God and religion occupy in their daily life. The action-oriented activities focus on developing awareness within the individual of his/her potential as a growing person, friend, family member, citizen, and a participant in the community of faith.

Mary, the First Disciple

“My being proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit finds joy in God my Savior ... ” (Luke 1:46-47) The Marian Medal program is written for young Catholics, grades 7-10, to enable them to “proclaim the greatness of the Lord.” This is accomplished by actively involving the participants in an understanding of Mary as a model of openness and spirituality—a woman of the church.

The Spirit Alive

This program is designed for Catholic youth in high school (grades 9-12) who are in the senior level of Girl Scouts. It assists them in discovering how the Holy Spirit moves in their lives, calling them to greater participation in the church’s ministry.

Cub Scouts

Light of Christ
This religious program helps young Tiger or Wolf Cub Scouts develop a personal relationship with Jesus. With the active assistance and participation of the parents in this program, it is hoped that the scout will come to see Jesus as a real person and his friend.

Parvuli Dei

Its purpose is to help young boys explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their family and parish, and also to develop a good positive self-image through the contributions they can make to the group or community.

Ad Altare Dei

The purpose of the Ad Altare Dei (to the altar of God) program is to help Catholic Boy Scouts develop a full Christian way of life in the faith community. The most important aspect of the program is that the Scout grows in his spiritual experience of his relationship to God and the church.
