Prayer and Worship Ministries

 
Cantors
Purpose: Serve as leaders of sung prayer at liturgy.
Activities: Sing at Mass approximately two times per month with additional ½ hour rehearsal during the week.
 
Choir - Children
Purpose: Provide children an opportunity to serve the parish as leaders of prayer. Children's choir enhances the beauty of liturgy and gives children musical, social and spiritual benefits.
Activities: Sing at Mass during designated Sundays thoughout the year. Open to students in K5 - grade 8. Rehearsals on Thursdays at 2:50 PM.
 
Choir - Funeral
Purpose: Men and women who use their musical talents to lead the congregation in sung prayer.
Activities: Members are contacted when a funeral is scheduled. If available, rehearsal occurs 30 minutes prior to funeral liturgy.
 
Choir - Parish
Purpose: Men and women who use their musical talents to lead the congregation in sung prayer. Sing during designated Masses from September through the Parish Festival, plus Holy Days and special occasions and weekly during Advent, Christmas and Lent.
Activities: Alternate singing between the 4:30 p.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Masses. Rehearsals on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00.
 
Eucharistic Ministers
Purpose: These Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist assist with the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass.
Activities: One training session. Eucharistic Ministers may serve at Mass as often as they would like.
 
Funeral Liturgy Assistants
Purpose: Assist with the celebration of a funeral Mass. May serve as acolytes, readers, Eucharistic Ministers.
Activities: Notified when funeral occurs. Can serve if available.
 
Gift Families
Purpose: Participate in presenting the gifts of bread and wine.
Activities: Members of the assembly are asked to bring the gifts to the altar during Sunday Masses and holy days.
 
Homebound Ministry
Purpose: Take Eucharist to and visit those unable to attend Mass, respite care to provide support and a few hours away for a caregiver, transportation to Mass.
Activities: Eucharistic visits to include the sharing of fellowship and friendship with our homebound parishioners
 
Hospitality Ministry
Purpose: Assist the assembly at every liturgy on weekends and holy days.
Activities: Hand out orders of worship, seat people, handle collections, hand out bulletins, and mild church clean-up.
 
Lectors
Purpose: Proclaim the Word of God.
Activities: Lectoring during Masses on weekends and holy days.
 
Liturgical Environment
Purpose: To create an environment conducive for worship.
Activities: Idea development, sewing, building, set-up/clean-up, floral design, etc.
 
Prayer and Worship Committee
Purpose: Nourishes and gives direction to the liturgical aspect of parish life by ensuring that parishioners are provided with opportunities to deepen their faith through a variety of prayer experiences and liturgical celebrations.
Activities: Decide theme and direction through reflection of readings and seasonal attributes.
 
Prayer at the Cemetery
Purpose: The conclusion of the funeral rites, committing the body to its final resting place.
Activities: Attend funeral Mass, processional to cemetery, prayer at the cemetery, through homebound ministry.
 
Prayer Line
Purpose: Pray for people who have requested special prayers due to illness, loss of job or other special occurrences in their lives.
Activities: People are assigned into small groups and given names of people to pray for.
 
Sacristans
Purpose: Assist with the general upkeep of the Sacristy and physical preparation needed for the celebration of Mass.
Activities: Prepare the altar with the hosts, wine, bowls and cups. A 45 minute training session is required.
 
Servers
Purpose: To assist the presider and assembly at liturgy.
Activities: Open to boys and girls in grades 6 and up.
