Saint John Vianney Catholic Church

Friends of St. Zita

New Ministry forming

Several years ago our church was cleaned on Fridays by groups of volunteers who vacuumed, dusted, washed the interior windows, spot cleaned the pews, cleaned the tile floor, and put things in order for the weekend.

There is still a need for that kind of help here at SJV.

Maybe under the patronage of
St. Zita this can once again be a blessing to our parish.

You certainly would be the first in your neighborhood to belong to a group called the Friends of St. Zita!

Who is St. Zita?

St. Zita was born into a poor but holy Christian family. At the age of twelve, Zita became a housekeeper in the house of a rich weaver in Lucca Italy, eight miles from her home at Monte Sagrati. As things turned out, she stayed with that family for the last forty-eight years of her life.

Word spread rapidly in Lucca of her good deeds and the heavenly visions that appeared to her. She was sought out by the important people, and at her death in 1278 the people acclaimed her as a saint.

She is the patroness of domestic workers. Her feast day is April 27.

Would you like to join this Ministry?

If you have the time on a Friday morning or afternoon and would like to be a Friend of St. Zita, call the parish office and volunteer.

The cleaning includes vacuuming, straightening things out, mopping tile floors, and miscellaneous clean-up jobs from time to time.

We currently have a firm commitment from six people for the second Friday of the month but still need helpers to add to the numbers on the other Fridays. Some are willing to come every Friday, some once a month, others from time to time.
