St. John Vianney has had a Twinning Relationship with a parish on the south side of Milwaukee since 1998.
At first the parish was St. Lawrence, but shortly after we began, St. Lawrence was joined with St. Matthew parish, and the new parish was named Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz. It is a multi-cultural parish, with a large Hispanic population. It has two school buildings, one of which houses the lower grades and the other the upper grades.
The school is a choice school, and has an enrollment of over 500 children. The parish is located at 25th St. & Scott Avenue in Milwaukee.
Prince of Peace is currently “collaborated” with two other parishes, St. Hyacinth’s and St. Vincent de Paul. They are served by two priests, Fr. Carlos Flores and Fr. Hugo Londono. Their Christian Formation programs are combined, as well as parish staffs.
Our goals were then and are still to:
1. Develop a partnering journey with mutually enriching exchanges between culturally diverse parishes.
2. Recognize and understand the unique resources of both parishes that can help us become better Catholics.
3. Share parish life and interchange ideas at the child, youth, and adult levels.
4. Mutual understanding of each other’s realities including inter-parish and inter-cultural experiences.
5. Develop personal relationships beyond the traditional material gifts.
Many twinning activities are possible: multicultural faith-sharing groups, school/Christian formation collaboration, joint prayer / worship opportunities, service projects, exploring immigration issues, person-to-person or family-to-family connections, etc.
Habitat for Humanity - Prince of Peace
Workers donate time and services on a regular basis to renovate the parish and neighboring homes. Special skills are not required and the activities are flexible.

Committee Information:
St. John’s Twinning Committee meets periodically to plan events and activities that help to bring together our two parishes and schools in a wide variety of ways to accomplish these goals. Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz also has a Twinning Committee, and the two groups collaborate regularly.
Some of the activities that occur regularly include English as a Second Language, which we support with volunteers and funds, the Abuela group of retirees who visit with the kindergarten children every week, some Habitat Outreach to work on various projects, and more. Between parish schools, SJV and PoP students correspond with each other as buddies regularly, 5th grade students visit PoP to celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe in December and other fun activities. Students enjoy developing friendships based on similiar interests.
We have held joint Soup Suppers, two mini-work camp programs with teens, a joint pilgrimage, Posadas events, and more.
We are planning another Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in La Crosse on Saturday, June 16th. See the website www.guadalupeshrine.org. Details will be announced soon.
