In addition to the Archdiocese School Curriculum and the Specialized Curriculum, SJV provides the following extracurricular activities to help develop students beyond the classroom.
Participation in competitive athletics is open to students in grades 5–8 in cooperation with the SJV Athletic Association. Seasonal sponsored sports include volleyball, cross country, basketball, tennis, and track.
The opportunity to take private band lessons is provided for students in grades 4–8. The band lessons are arranged with the Band Instructor during the school day. Group rehearsals are held after school.
Students in grades 4–8 are eligible to participate in the SJV Children’s Choir, the Jubilate Choir. The children sing for parish Masses and special occasions. Rehearsals are held after school.
The SJV Fine Arts Department (division of Home & School) annually sponsors a drama production in the late spring. The production is primarily composed of students in grades 6–8. The annual production encourages students to attain exposure, understanding and experience in fine arts.
Scouting programs are available for boys and girls in grades K5 – 8.
Students in grades 6–8 are eligible to participate at school Masses as Song Leaders who help lead the congregation in song. Rehearsal for Song Leaders occurs during the school day.
The school year is divided into two semesters, with 14 weeks of lessons in each semester. Each student will have a weekly lesson that is 20 minutes in length. Weekly lessons will be private or semi-private and students will be grouped into lesson groups based on ability level, work pace, and scheduling.
